Business growth - what does it mean to you?

From our Head of Marketing & Sales, Andrew Little, some thoughts on REDTAIL Telematics growth

I like businesses that grow. Testament my LinkedIn profile. There are of course many ways to measure said growth, and each business has unique metrics/KPIs/data to articulate. REDTAIL DNA is innovation and continuous improvement, with a rigorous quality ethos that underpins it all. In our telematics world (Stolen Vehicle Recovery, Usage Based Insurance, Fleet), we can only keep getting better through more and better understanding of drivers and their vehicles. That understanding is driven (sorry) by miles, kilometres, journeys and every detail of what has happened on those journeys – events as we call them. I asked our Data Team to offer a few insights into journeys we’ve recorded since 2010:

  • About 2 billion miles covered
  • About 800,000 vehicles
  • 50 million harsh braking events
  • 1 million harsh cornering events
  • 1,000 confirmed crashes

A lot of data!

So, what do we understand better now that can provide ever greater value to our customers and their consumers? A few interesting and important areas where we’ve helped:

  • Insurers understand risk through the use of driver behaviour data
  • Insurers respond to and manage claims better
  • Fleet Managers help drivers drive to save fuel
  • Fleet owners reduce idling time to increase efficiency

So, is that growth?

Certainly, in purely numerical terms it is. Given the longevity of our customer relationships with Tracker, Admiral, By Miles and numerous small Fleets in the US, it is apparent that we have innovated to grow with them. Clearly, we are not done! REDTAIL thrives on more and better data delivered from world class hardware or direct from the vehicle to enable value for our customers. Here’s to the next billion. Happy New Year!
